Another Sleepless Night Makes KEXP Top 10 List! - December 20, 2007
On Thursday night, Don Slack brings the best alternative country, honky tonk, western swing, bluegrass and other kinds of hardcore twang to Swinging Doors on KEXP Seattle WA.
Forget the boot-scootin’, hip shakin’ rock that passed for country in the 80’s and 90’s — this is the real old stuff mixed in with plenty of contemporary artists, of which there was no shortage in 2007. Here’s Don’s list for this year’s best:
1. Miranda Lambert - Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (Sony/BMG)
2. Roger Wallace - It’s About Time (Natchez Street)
3. Eilen Jewell - Letters From Sinners & Strangers (Signature Sounds)
4. Ha Ha Tonka - Buckle in the Bible Belt (Bloodshot)
5. Joe Nichols - Real Things (Universal South)
6. Porter Wagoner - Wagonmaster (Anti-)
7. Jeff Kanzler - Black Top Road (self-released)
8. Two Cow Garage - III (Shelterhouse)
9. David Serby - Another Sleepless Night (self-released)
10. The Avett Brothers - Emotionalism (Ramseur)

David Serby: LA Times "Critic's Picks" for the STAGECOACH FESTIVAL - May 3, 2007
CATCH IT IF YOU CAN
David Serby. With easygoing Dwight Yoakam-meets-Ricky Nelson vocals, his skill is at sharp turns of phrase, and he has a fine debut album getting him noticed in country circles.
(Palomino Stage, 1-1:30)

David Serby To Play Stagecoach Festival - January 28, 2007
Stagecoach, as the country cousin of the huge Coachella rock franchise is now named, will saddle up for the first time in early May with a lineup that is even deeper than previously announced: Alan Jackson, Brooks & Dunn, Kris Kristofferson, Emmylou Harris, Gary Allan and Neko Case have been added to the bill.
Those acts will join George Strait, Kenny Chesney, Willie Nelson, Lucinda Williams, Ricky Scaggs, Sugarland, Nickel Creek and others at the May 5 and 6 festival at the Empire Polo Field in Indio.
Stagecoach, organized by Goldenvoice, will be the weekend after the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, the three-day rock and electronic event at the same site.
There will be four stages, 50 acts and plenty of variety, with bluegrass, "outlaw" music, L.A. alt-country acts, cowboy poetry, exhibits of western heritage, etc. Among the acts: the Flatlanders, Sara Evans, Raul Malo, Earl Scruggs, Garrison Keillor, Jason Aldean, Robert Earl Keen, Chris Hillman, Alejandro Escovedo, Marty Stuart, Ramblin' Jack Elliott and David Serby.

I Just Don't Go Home makes 2006 Top Ten List! - January 6, 2007
Chris Morris, the legendary music scribe for such publications as the Los Angeles Reader, Musician, Rolling Stone, LA Weekly, Los Angeles CityBeat, Billboard, and the Hollywood Reporter recently chose I JUST DON'T GO HOME as one of the 10 best records of 2006.
Mr. Morris had this to say about the record:
"David Serby, I Just Don't Go Home (Western Beat). This unassuming Illinois-born neo-honky-tonk musician is currently writing songs as full of brilliantly observed detail as those penned by his obvious model, Dave Alvin. I shit you not. And at every live show, he seems to pull yet another magnificent new song out of his bag. Nice guy, too. So buy his album, check out his local gigs, and keep your eyes open – Serby's gonna be around for a while."
Needless to say, it's a real honor to have Chris Morris pick I JUST DON'T GO HOME to sit on his list beside records by Bob Dylan, Los Lobos, Alejandro Escovedo, Neil Young, and Tom Waits. Please check out my PRESS section to read the entire article.
Chris Morris is currently spinning discs on "Watusi Rodeo" every Sunday from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. on Indie 103.1 in Los Angeles (streamin' live at
www.indie1031.com). He's a great supporter of local music here in Los Angeles, so, please take a listen to his show. You'll here great local artists, as well as Chris' favorite current and classic country, blues, rock-n-roll, and rhythm and blues.
Listen to Watusi Radio with Chris Morris on Sunday Sept 24th - 2006
Check out Watusi Radio - Indie Radio 103.1 -- Sept 24th; 11:00 - 1:00
I'll be in studio to play a few tracks and chat with Chris.
We're working on a new record! - 2006
For those of you have seen David Serby & The Sidewinders play live - you know we have a whole bunch of new songs.
Well, we're currently putting those tunes down on another Edward Tree produced record.
We've finished the rhythm tracks (Dale Daniel and Billy Block on drums; Taras Prodaniuk on bass; and me pounding away on the old Gibson Advanced Jumbo).
Right now, Ed Tree is doing that bluesy, soulful, country thing he does so well, and we're lining up some old and new friends to help color in all the parts that need some color.
We're looking at a January 2007 release date but if everything goes right I might just have some advance copies in December 2006.
Check back in later for more news and updates.
